I wish I had my 99 cents back; there are better books to spend my pension on.I can't believe that this book was written by the author of the wonderful Uncle Abner mysteries which I read over and over. This book, however, will be rewarded with my finger hitting "remove from device." Not only are these stories unimaginative, but several of them have the same plot, crime, and characters. Oh, the characters' names are changed, but the descriptions are not.
Reading this was, after the first 3 or 4 stories, like watching "B movie" horror films: I knew what was going to happen, but didn't care enough about the characters to think, "No! Don't go into the old haunted house!" I was more like Ronald Reagan saying "Here we go again..."
I also didn't appreciate that the book's Table of Contents wasn't linked.

CASEBOOK of MONSIEUR JONQUELLE Prefect of Police of Paris Mystery Detective Stories 1 edition by Melville Davisson Post 18711930 Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
The lousy formulas used for the plotting of most of the stories did bother me. There were too many were only the names and locations were changed from one of the others.
such an unassuming fellow could outsmart so many criminal? He's like Poirot in a
second hand suit. He's worth reading.
The narrative is enchantingly descriptive and flows smoothly throughout the stories.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in European type mysteries.
I rated this book 5 stars because of the many interesting elements the author uses to highlight his stories.
the first story took me completely by surprise, I never saw the solution coming ,especially since I had been reading supernatural stories just before. The other stories are entertaining , and yes some are similar to each other, but I didnt mind, They give a good idea about what pulp readers of the time liked, and they were fun.
I wish I had my 99 cents back; there are better books to spend my pension on.
